DOCTORATE COURSE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND MATHEMATICS

Subject area CUN: 01 Mathematics and Computer Science, 09 Industrial and information engineering

Coordinator: Prof. Maria COSTABILE

Administrative location: Dipartimento di Informatica Total number of places available : 6

– 4 with a scholarship funded by the University. One scholarship has a priority for candidates holding a degree from foreign Universities.

– 2 positions with a “higher education apprenticeship contract” for graduates aged 18-29. The contract is established with Expriva S.p.A., an enterprise whose main location is in Molfetta (BA), on topics related to two researcher profiles R1 and R2 below:

R1. Agile at-Scale for Mission-Critical Software-Reliant Systems

The objective of this research is to define processes, methods and tools that allow agile development in mission- critical contexts. Such contexts differ from the common commercial ones, primarily because the product to develop is critical at it requires very high quality and reliability, thus implying a great amount of resources.

However, the conditions that pushed the agile development paradigm some years ago are now occurring in

mission- critical contexts, e.g., production pressure, very strict deadlines, customer satisfaction, etc. This research will deeply analyse how to enable agile development on large scale mission-critical systems.

R2. Software Product and Data Quality

The objective of this research is to define models, technologies, environments and tools to support software quality processes. The recent ISO 25000 standard entirely rotates around software quality issues from all its perspectives ranging from source code to architecture and to data, also defining processes and quality models for evaluating them. Specifically, there a lot of work to do on issues such as evaluation of maintenance and of functionality adequacy (ISO 25010) as well as on data quality evaluation (ISO 25012). This research will primarily take into account the sustainability of both the evaluation process and the tools to be used and will also collect experimental evidence on the follow-up of such approaches.

Duration: 3 years

Curricula:

1. Computer Science (Scientific Subject Codes: INF/01, ING-INF/05) 2. Mathematics (Scientific Subject Codes: MAT/05, MAT/06 and MAT/08) For each curriculum there will be a specific exam and the relative ranking lists will all merge into one final ranking list for admission.

The candidates must indicate their curriculum choice on the application form of this call – Annex 1) on penalty of disqualification from selection procedures.

The candidates that choose the “Computer Science” curriculum can also indicate in Annex 2) their interest for one or both research profiles R1 and R2 of the apprenticeship contracts.

In order to assign n.2 positions with an apprenticeship contract, the Committee will examine the candidates on the research topics, after the oral exam, with the aim of understanding his/her knowledge and interest on those topics (see art. 6 of the call).

For the place reserved for the graduates from Foreign Universities, the selection will be made on the basis of the evaluation of the titles and a separate ranking list of merit. In case the place is not given, it will be attributed to the candidates who are in the ranking list of merit.
