Gene Golub SIAM Summer School 2020 (fully funded)

Gene Golub SIAM Summer School 2020

Dates: July 20-31, 2020

Venue: AIMS South Africa, Muizenberg, Cape Town

Theme: Theory and Practice of Deep Learning

Overview:

The focus of the school will be the theory, implementation, and application of deep learning based on neural nets with many layers. Students will learn the mathematical underpinnings of deep learning using functional analysis and optimization theory. They will be introduced to applications that include computer vision, non-linear programming, and forecasting, and will attend lectures by practitioners of deep learning in industry. Students will implement deep learning algorithms primarily using Python with TensorFlow and Keras.

Target Audience:

The intended audience is graduate students, meaning anyone studying beyond a three- or four-year undergraduate degree, who have done a significant amount of mathematics and some computing in their studies. Ideal candidates will be working on a research project that requires the use of deep learning methods.

Funding:

Applicants selected to participate will pay no registration fee, will be provided with standard student accommodation and meals and their travel expenses will be fully covered.

Application Deadline: February 1, 2020
