Description
Job title : FPGA Designer
Position summary
X-Haul Business Unit is providing Microwave transport solution within Nokia, reference product is 9500 MPR.
As a FPGA engineer in X-Haul you will contribute to feature evolution of product. FPGA is relevant part of 9500 MPR product and majority of feature differentiator with respect to competition relies on FPGA specific implementation.
You will develop extensive knowledge of new telecommunications protocols and standards, microwave specificities, Nokia’s hardware platforms and the way customers are deploying them.
As part of FPGA team, you will work in the context of a single team over different X-Haul R&D locations, highly interacting with other teams inside X-Haul.
As part of a multi-disciplinary agile team of senior experts you will be key in bringing our product innovations and evolutions to the market faster and at higher quality than the competition, and in this you will be supported by state of the art development and test technologies, tools and processes.
Within one FPGA project you will contribute to study and architecture definition and will be responsible of design, coding, simulation, unit and system tests, following the complete project flow from requirement and feasibility analysis to maintenance.
Main tasks are architecture definition and implementation/test of new FPGA designs or evolution of existing ones.
Challenges:
• Work effectively as part of a multi-site team developing a common design
• Derive from high level product/system requirements the detailed FPGA design specifications
• Define the best FPGA architecture suitable for the product purposes and future proof to possible evolution
• Track and report the status of the assigned FPGA activity, flag in advance and proactively propose recovery actions aimed to milestones adherence and delivery quality
• Manage multiple priorities, product requirements evolving in parallel to FPGA development and short lead time
• Take fast ownership of complex existing designs, developing new features, proposing optimizations and being capable to troubleshoot on bench
Main responsibilities and/or activities:
• Requirement analysis and feasibility studies
• FPGA architecture definition, including algorithm modelling
• FPGA design specification definition
• FPGA development, simulation, synthesis, P&R and board level integration
• FPGA unit test organization and reporting, including bring-up and validation of FPGA design on the target hardware board
• System test organization and reporting, in cooperation with HW Digital, SW and Integration teams
• FPGA project status reporting and tracking
• Configuration management and versioning of FPGA designs and related items
• Develop automatic test benches for continuous simulation
• Contribute to process improvement and innovation
Qualifications
Mandatory:
• FPGA design consolidated experience
• Competence in:
o clock management,
o timing constraining and verification,
o resource usage analysis and saving
• Competence in “best design and coding practices”
• Competence in “coding for reuse and technology portability”
• Knowledge of some FPGA specific tools, for instance: Xilinx Vivado, Altera Quartus, Mentor Graphics suite for FPGA (HDL Designer, ModelSim, QuestaSim, Precision)
• Good spoken and written English
• Good teamwork skills, able to interface with people with different technical background and culture
Nice to have:
• Knowledge of microwave point-to-point communication application with past working experience in that domain
• Knowledge of radio transmission concepts (equalization, modulation, FEC, clock and carrier recovery, XPIC, diversity, adaptive modulation)
• Knowledge of Ethernet standard
• Basic knowledge of PLL theory and synchronization concepts
• Knowledge of SDH and PDH standards
• Knowledge of QoS, policing, CES concepts and implementation experience
• Experience in FPGA embedded processors (soft/hard cores)
• Experience on MatLab/Simulink platform for system modelling and DSP implementation using vendor toolboxes and automated code generation
• Troubleshooting capabilities on complex systems
• Agile high level knowledge
