The course examines basic phenomena of Modern Greek grammar,
in order to develop the meta-linguistic ability of students in
way in which the language is descriptively analyzed from the modern
linguistics. The course helps students to acquire the
linguistic background for pedagogical approach to level grammar
didactic. In addition, he critically examines “myths” and “truths” concerning Nea
Greek (in terms of usage, errors, etc.).
Subject matter:
– Myths” about the Greek language: relation to Arch. Greek, language change and
intake by native speakers, errors in language use.
– Verb system: morphology (tense, aspect, declension, voice), syntax (arguments,
predicate, subject and complement functions).
– Nominative system: declension (case, number), gender and categories of names,
determiners, pronouns, quantifiers.
– Sentence system: main and secondary, order of terms of the sentence:
morphology, syntax, information structure.
